I love Star gate sg1 and Atlantis but SGU is a big pile I hope it is a short lived project.

So when the premiere launched I did not know what to think. The next few episodes were character developers, which may not be the most exciting, but help to get you understanding a bit more of who we are dealing with. Then as the winter break approached, a few very strong episodes, with hopefully many more to come. I am very excited to see where this goes, it does not have the tounge in cheek approach of the first two, as being stranded hoping just to survive until tomorrow, does not warrant it. I think if everyone would approach this with an open mind, and not look for a true spin-off of the first two SG television shows, they will really enjoy it. One word of warning, a lot of what goes on in each episode is arc-driven, meaning picking up in episode 3 and expecting to know what is going on, is not great idea.

A great and interesting stuff. A bit more dramatic and edgier than Atlantis and SG-1...but like those two its a lot of recycled scifi concepts from other shows from startek to BSG.. still a fan and i love it

That said, don't go into this with any preconceptions and I think you will appreciate the show more. Watch and decide for your self.

I've been a Stargate fan nearly my whole life. From the movie to the shows, to the movies and back to the show, I can say that I have always loved the franchise. I am looking forward to the MMO Stargate Worlds when that comes out. The new show in the Stargate world is Stargate Universe. The prospective storyline for this is full of potential. Anyone who enjoyed Voyager or BSG will probably recognize the similarities SGU brings in the pilot episodes. Anyone who finds this similarities disheartening should think again. The writers are certainly fully aware of the initial similarities and will make sure that SGU is new in its own right. I am not a critic. Therefore I cannot comment much about the acting in SGU. I will say that a lot of the actors are young, and for a single show they did manage to find a lot of women that just come across as evil, annoying, and just plain bitchy. I hope the writers found time to kill a few of them off. No story would be right without a few antagonists in the mix anyways. Sex scenes...? I really honestly find no point to them at all... any viewers attracted by a flash of bare skin and moaning are going to be gone as soon as you get back to the show. Identify with Robert Carlyle. The guy is a hint of crazy dashed with superior acting and a dislike of other people in general. Stargate is just one of those shows that makes you shake your fist at the screen and scream "why...! Why must this happen...! This is so unfair@@! It's not right!". If you've read a lot of negative reviews to this point... well I suggest you ignore them and watch the show for yourself. Ultimately you are the one who will either love or hate this show. Take these reviews as evidence that this show has controversial appeal to viewers, and you need to decide who's right and who's wrong.
